All of our employees serve in the role of Visitor Information Counsellors, in addition, we have an administrative position which is a combined position to manage the Lillooet Visitor Information Centre and Miyazaki House.
Visitor Information Counsellor
A Visitor Information Counsellor is an ambassador to Lillooet, BC and it is an extremely important role. The main activities of a Visitor Information Counsellor include identifying visitor needs, offering information, and promoting tourism products and services. Visitor Information Counsellors have a direct impact on the visitor’s experience and impression of Lillooet and all regions of the province.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome visitors and identify their information needs
- Provide accurate information to visitors regarding destinations, transportation, accommodation, etc, options and costs, and suggest suitable products in Lillooet, the area, region, or province via mail, phone, email, and in person.
- Assist individuals or groups to organize vacation/travel plans
- Deliver basic information about the historic house to interested visitors
- Promote tourism products and services
- Make accommodation, transportation, etc, reservations using computerized reservation systems
- Distribute promotional materials
- Encourage new and return visits
- Gather and record statistical information related to each visitor party
- Post current information of interest to visitors such as Tourist Alert, road, and weather reports
- Maintain brochure racks and ensure adequate inventory is always on hand
- Assemble/disassemble pop-up mobile booths at special events and keep them stocked and organized with brochures, maps, and supplies.
- Gather information and develop new resources
- Review existing materials and update them as necessary
- Comply with professional dress code and grooming standards
- Strive to exceed our visitor’s expectations and provide them with an exceptional experience.
- Accurately collect donations and operate a cash register
- Be responsible for maintaining and ensuring the house and grounds are clean and tidy
Qualifications:
- Be visitor service oriented and personable;
- knowledgeable about Lillooet and surrounding areas ;
- be enthusiastic and punctual;
- ability to work well independently and as part of a team;
- professional attitude and appearance;
- fluent in English, written, and oral (ability to speak a second language is an asset)
- physically capable of meeting the demands of this position (lifting 10-30 lb. boxes);
- willingness to learn new things; and,
- Visitor Information Counsellor and SuperHost certification.
Positions:
- 1 Part Time (16 hours/week) Permanent, Seasonal, Hourly.
- 2 – 3 Canada Summer Jobs Positions July and August (40 hours/week) Seasonal, Hourly. (dependent on funding)
General Manager
Besides filling the role of a VIC, the Role of our General Manager is to:
- manage the day-to-day operations of the Miyazaki House and Lillooet Visitor Information Centre
- work with the Miyazaki House Society to develop a business plan to reach our goals and ensure minimum Visitor Centre Network criteria are maintained;
- promote the District of Lillooet, surrounding communities, region, and province by offering multiple activity options that enhance and extend visitor stays or encourage return visits;
- improve the level and quality of visitor services provided through staff training and resource materials;
- plan and participate in familiarization tours;
- communicate regularly with the Miyazaki House Society Board of Directors;
- manage bookings and rentals of the property;
- work with Destination BC, specifically with Visitor Services staff, as the contact person for the Lillooet Visitor Information Centre; and,
- perform other administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications of General Manager include the same as our Visitor Information Counsellor plus:
- supervisory/management training and experience;
- strong interpersonal skills;
- good organizational skills with attention to detail;
- ability to meet deadlines;
- excellent communication skills;
- good word processing and computer skills;
- social media skills;
- ability to deliver formal classroom and on-site training;
- experience in the tourism industry is an asset; and,
- Visitor Information Counsellor and SuperHost certification.
1 Full Time (30 to 40 hours/week) Permanent, Seasonal, Hourly.
Wages and Benefits
Wages are competitive and may be based on experience. Extended health benefits optional. We provide free, on-the-job training for Visitor Information Counsellor and SuperHost certifications and other courses as needed.
