We opened the 2024 season with a Community Art Exhibit Showcase, featuring artwork by Gordon Whitney. Gordon’s exhibit opens May 21st and goes until June 2nd, 2024. The exhibit was open to the public Wednesday to Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
June Events and Activities
June events include a return of the pancake breakfast, a longstanding tradition in Lillooet so the community can celebrate Father’s Day together with family and friends. For those who are curious about local medicinal plants traditionally used by the St’at’mic people, this workshop is for you.
Sunday, June 2nd from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm there will be a public Celebration of Life for Gordon Whitney. His family invites everyone to attend.
Saturday, June 15th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm is the monthly Lillooet Free Market in the garden. Everything is free! Bring your gently used items and or take what you need. Share your talents or skills. There’s always music and a potluck dinner to share as well.
Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast
Sunday, June 16th from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon is a Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast. Enjoy a delicious breakfast with family and or friends on Father’s Day. Let us save you the time and effort of preparing breakfast at home. It’s a chance to come together, support a cause, and enjoy the company of others in a welcoming atmosphere and beautiful location.
Here’s what’s on the menu:
- Pancakes with your choice of butter and syrup or strawberries and whipped cream.
- Sausages
- Coffee or Tea
- Apple or Orange Juice
Price: Adults $15 or Children $10
Traditional Medicinal Plants Workshop
Saturday, June 29th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Traditional Medicinal Plants Workshop. Learn from St’at’mic Elder Philomena Peters about traditional medicinal plants that grow in the area and how to use them. There will be a handout and light refreshments provided. This workshop is organized by a member with funding from a neighbourhood small grant. Price: Free

Saturday, July 13th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm is the monthly Lillooet Free Market in the garden. Bring your gently used items and or take what you need. Clothing, household items and more. Share your talents or skills. There’s always music and a potluck meal to share as well. Everything is free!
Teddy Bear Picnic and Bear Aware Presentation
Saturday, July 20th from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm Teddy Bear Picnic and Bear Aware presentation. Families are invited to bring a blanket, a picnic lunch, and a teddy bear or favourite stuffed animal to this fun event during Lillooet’s annual Apricot Tsaqwem Festival. Tables and chairs will also be availble for those who need them. Bear expert and rescuer, Lydia Koot from Hope will have information about bear safety for people and bears.
- Book marks and stickers for the children.
- Colouring pages, and a booklet about bears and cougars.
- Bear aware brochures for adults.
- Demonstration of food other items to educate on all types of bear attractants.
Music, a teddy bear parade, and other activities for children are planned. A community member organized this event with funding from a neighbourhood small grant. Price: Free
Ice Cream Social & Ice Cream Making Workshop
Saturday, July 27th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Our Ice Cream Social is the perfect family outing! Bring your kids, grandparents, and everyone in between for a fun-filled afternoon of ice cream and community spirit. Watch an ice cream-making demonstration then enjoy a delicious homemade ice cream sundae. Live music and good company.
Menu: Choose from a strawberry or chocolate sundae, two scoops of real, old-fashioned vanilla ice cream with your choice toppings:

Ian Skorscha Concert
Ian Skorscha will be at the Miyazaki House on Wednesday, August 21st, 7 – 9 pm. Advance Tickets $17.00 or $20.00 suggested donation at the door.
Ian Skorscha is a nomad musician from the Patagonia region of Argentina. He has spent 10 years touring from Canada to Argentina which has led him to become a troubadour with a personal sound. Nourished from Latin and Folk rhythms he’s making groundbreaking music. Ian sings in Spanish, while engaging his audience with storytelling, and takes us on a journey along his paths creating bridges between all of America.
September Events

Community Art Show
In September, we’re holding a Community Art Show. The art show will be open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm the following Saturdays and Sundays, September 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th, 2024. Admission is free. Local artists are invited to submit one or two pieces of artwork to showcase their talent. All art mediums are welcome. Voting will close at 1:00 pm Sunday, September 29th.
People’s Choice Awards Celebration 1:00 to 3:00pm Sunday, September 29th. All artists are encouraged to attend.
Art Show Rules
All art mediums are welcome. There is no entry fee for artists. Each piece of art will be assigned a number, and voting will be open to the public. The three most popular works will receive a People’s Choice Award and small cash prizes of $75.00, $50.00, and $25.00.
Art submissions can be brought to the Miyazaki House between 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 19th or 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, September 20th.
- All artwork must be created and completed by the artist.
- Art submissions are open to all amateur and professional artists.
- The artist must provide an inventory list to be kept on file at the Miyazaki House.
- The artwork must be ready to hang or display and the artist will be expected to install and de-install the artwork. We have an art rail system designed for use with picture wire or monofilament. We also have art pedestals for carvings, sculptures, and other 3-dimensional artwork.
- In case of loss or damage to items while at the Miyazaki House, the Miyazaki House Society will not be responsible for the cost of the product. All product is left at the artist’s own risk.
The number of entries is limited to two per person, we will consider more depending on available space.
Art has a unique ability to transcend language and cultural barriers, serving as a powerful medium for expression and connection. By showcasing the talents of local artists from diverse backgrounds, the Community Art Show promotes cultural exchange and appreciation while fostering a sense of unity through creativity.

October Events
Haunted House – Be Prepared To Be Scared!
In October we have another fun event planned for youngsters, the Haunted Miyazaki House for Halloween on October 31st, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
This free event is for families with older children (ages 8-12), teens, young adults, and Halloween fans who are seeking thrills, excitement, and a bit of adrenaline. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
Trick-or-treating, fireworks, and spooky experiences are all fun cultural traditions! A community member is organizing this event with funding from a neighbourhood small grant. Admission price: Free.
November Events
In November we’re holding a fundraiser Harmony in Dessert, a silent auction featuring music, bids, and treats on Saturday, November 16th, 2024 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
